Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium Sapar Palvanov held a meeting in Brussels with Heinrich Kerstens, Director of Strategic Projects at the Rhenus Group management board. The talks focused on the international logistics company’s plans to expand freight volumes transiting through Turkmenistan, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium reported on Friday.

The sides discussed Turkmenistan’s potential as a vital link in the transportation network between Europe and Asia. The Rhenus representative noted that amid global changes in logistics, Central Asia—and Turkmenistan in particular—is becoming increasingly important in terms of reliability and stability of cargo flows. The discussion placed particular emphasis on the capabilities of Turkmenbashi International Seaport and the country’s developed railway infrastructure.

Kerstens emphasized that the company views Turkmenistan not only as a transit corridor but also as a promising direction for sustainable logistics routes. Rhenus Group also expressed interest in facilitating the export of Turkmen-made products, including to European markets.

Palvanov noted that the development of modern and high-tech transportation infrastructure is one of Turkmenistan’s national priorities. The country is actively investing in the construction of new highways, modernization of railway lines, and expansion of port facilities on the Caspian Sea. These steps aim to strengthen Turkmenistan’s role as an effective bridge between East and West.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties expressed readiness to continue cooperation and agreed to develop dialogue at expert and technical levels.

Rhenus Group is one of Europe’s largest logistics companies, headquartered in Germany. It operates in over 70 countries, offering services in multimodal transport, warehouse logistics, and supply chain management.
