Turkmenistan Proposes Creating a Global Hydrogen Energy Program

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, speaking at the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3) on Tuesday in Avaza, put forward an initiative to establish a global program for the transition to hydrogen energy for the period 2030–2040, reports Business Turkmenistan.

In this regard, the Turkmen leader proposed starting discussions next year on the modalities for developing such a program within the framework of the United Nations.

The head of state emphasized that Turkmenistan consistently supports expanding practical cooperation in renewable energy and expressed readiness to participate in the development of hydrogen energy. According to him, clear joint plans and interaction algorithms are necessary for this purpose.

In his speech, the President noted that Turkmenistan operates in the international energy space in strict accordance with UN-adopted documents and advocates for the mandatory compliance of all energy system participants — producers, transit countries, and consumers — with international environmental standards and climate agreements.

Within the context of the environmental agenda, President Berdimuhamedov recalled Turkmenistan’s initiative to form a global framework program for the transition to a circular economy, emphasizing the need for all economic activities to comply with environmental requirements The President emphasized Turkmenistan’s aim to establish a production model that contributes to the preservation of the natural environment.

The Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3) commenced on August 4 at the Avaza National Tourist Zone and will continue through August 8 inclusive.
