President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has signed a resolution authorizing the State Concern Türkmenhimiýa to enter into a contract with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. and Gap Inşaat Yatirim ve Diş Ticaret Anonim Şirketi for the design and construction of a urea production complex, including landscaping of the surrounding area, in the Turkmenbashy district of Balkan province.
The plant will have an annual production capacity of 1.155 million tons of urea, according to Turkmenistan’s official media on Friday.
Construction is scheduled to begin in July 2026, with completion and commissioning planned for February 2030.
A similar facility, Garabogazkarbamid, was commissioned in Turkmenistan in 2018. It is designed to produce 1.155 million tons of urea and 660,000 tons of synthetic ammonia annually. Natural gas serves as the main feedstock.
