From January through November 2025, 19,000 container shipments were transported through Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Railway Transport reported.
The total included 9,250 transit containers, 5,650 export containers and 4,100 import containers — an increase of 9,405 containers compared with the same period in 2024, the ministry said Tuesday.
The increase in container traffic was driven by the active use of the North-South, Lapis Lazuli and East-West international transport corridors, as well as the introduction of favorable tariff conditions for freight operators. Multimodal routes linking Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran; Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and Europe; and Uzbekistan continue to develop. Since the beginning of the year, 63 container trains have operated on these routes.
The expansion of the country’s logistics capacity is improving rail transport efficiency and supporting growth in transit, import and export shipments.
The North-South corridor is a 7,200-kilometer multimodal route. The alternative corridor connects Europe with the Persian Gulf countries and the Indian Ocean via the Suez Canal.
