Turkmen Ambassador to Belgium Sapar Palvanov held talks in Brussels with Maja Bakran Marcich, Deputy Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport, to discuss transport connectivity, development of the Trans-Caspian route and preparations for practical arrangements ahead of a possible visit by the president of Turkmenistan to the EU capital.

The discussions focused on expanding cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union in transport and logistics, including the establishment of sustainable coordination mechanisms between relevant institutions, according to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium.

Both sides underscored the growing importance of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor as a promising route linking Europe and Asia.

The talks also explored the possibility of creating an institutional framework for cooperation in the transport sector through a memorandum of understanding, a roadmap or another framework agreement.

Prospects for cooperation with international financial institutions and development banks were discussed as well, including interest in working with the European Investment Bank on transport infrastructure projects.

Later the same day in Brussels, Palvanov held a working meeting with Jan Dusik, deputy director-general of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Climate Action. The talks focused on prospects for developing solar energy and cross-border energy infrastructure. The European side positively assessed Turkmenistan’s potential amid growing demand for clean electricity.
