Hyakim of Lebap province Durdy Genjiyev met with Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Turkmenistan Ravshanbek Alimov to discuss prospects for establishing the Alat–Farab border trade zone between Uzbekistan’s Bukhara Region and Turkmenistan’s Lebap province.
The project is expected to boost bilateral trade turnover and contribute to economic growth and improved living standards in the border regions of the two countries, Dunyo news agency reported Monday.
The meeting also addressed the expansion of trade, economic and investment cooperation between regions of Uzbekistan and Lebap province.
The sides reviewed the implementation of agreements on cooperation in the trade, economic, scientific, technical, cultural and humanitarian fields between the administrations of Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya regions and the administration of Lebap province. The agreements were reached during the state visit of Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Uzbekistan on Nov. 17, 2025.
The parties also reaffirmed plans to jointly prepare for the third Uzbek-Turkmen interregional forum scheduled for this year, as well as business forums in Bukhara and Turkmenabat with the participation of business communities from both countries.
Earlier, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan discussed intensifying direct contacts between private sector entities and creating favorable conditions for implementing joint initiatives.
