Large-scale water management and land reclamation projects will be among the key development priorities of Turkmenistan’s agro-industrial sector in 2026, according to the newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan, published Tuesday.
Priority projects include construction of collector-drainage networks leading to the Turkmen Lake Altyn Asyr, development of a reservoir with a capacity of 90 million cubic meters, and modernization of irrigation systems across all regions of the country.
Planned measures in the agricultural sector also include installation of impermeable lining in the Dashoguz province, reconstruction of the Shasenem collector, and work to increase the carrying capacity of the Karakum River.
The projects are aimed at improving the condition of irrigated land and carrying out comprehensive reconstruction of agricultural areas.
The Program for Socio-Economic Development of Turkmenistan and Investments in 2026 calls for higher crop yields through the introduction of modern, water-saving technologies. The program also emphasizes livestock development, expansion of cattle, small ruminant and poultry numbers, and the use of artificial intelligence technologies in agriculture.
In 2026, the agro-industrial sector is expected to continue implementing strategic objectives to ensure food security. The source notes that particular attention will be given to production under the state order, adoption of environmentally friendly solutions, and the gradual improvement of land reclamation conditions.
