Turkmen Student Develops Technology to Produce Dyes From Galkynysh Sulfur

Maral Gullyeva, a student at the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International Oil and Gas University, has developed a technology for producing dyes from natural sulfur. The main raw material used in the research was sulfur from the supergiant Galkynysh gas field.

The study, conducted at the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Ecology, has been registered with Turkmenistan’s Intellectual Property Service, the country’s official media reported Friday.

The process involves producing sulfuric acid, reacting it with aluminum to form aluminum sulfate, and adding gypsum, lime and other components to synthesize stable coloring and adhesive compounds. Tests showed antiseptic properties, resistance to external factors and full safety for humans and the environment.

The development opens new opportunities for Turkmenistan’s chemical and oil and gas industries. The production process is cost-effective and does not require complex equipment, and the materials could be used in construction, textile, leather and paper industries, supporting import substitution and deeper processing of the country’s natural resources.
