Livestock breeders in Lebap province produced 26,700 tons of meat in live weight in January–February this year. The figure is nearly 2.5% higher, or 600 tons more, than in the same period last year, according to a report published Thursday in the newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.
The increase in production was driven by growth in livestock numbers. According to specialists, the number of cattle in February rose by 1,800 head compared with the same period last year, while the number of small livestock increased by 300 head.
Lambing in farms across the region is continuing and will be completed this month. Shepherds grazing flocks in the pastures of the Karakum Desert, Kyzylkum Desert and the valleys of Koytendag Mountains expect to receive more than 40,000 lambs by the end of the campaign. High performance has been recorded by livestock farms in Koytendag district, Serdar of Charjev district, Garagum of Halach district and Tallymerjen of Dovletli district.
Specialists note that healthy offspring are being obtained in all farms. This result became possible thanks to the livestock wintering campaign organized in advance. Before the onset of the cold season, the necessary volume of feed, hay and fodder was prepared and delivered to enclosures prepared for winter livestock keeping.
