Central Asian countries, Italy and Azerbaijan have reached agreements to elevate cooperation in agriculture and the agri-food sector to a new level, according to a final communiqué adopted at the Italy–Central Asia (C5) + Azerbaijan international agribusiness forum on Monday in Tashkent.

Participants included Italy’s Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry Francesco Lollobrigida, Azerbaijan’s Agriculture Minister Majnun Mammadov, Kazakhstan’s Deputy Agriculture Minister Yermek Kenjehanuly, Tajikistan’s Agriculture Minister Qurbon Hakimzoda, Kyrgyzstan’s Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry Almaz Jeenaliev, and Turkmenistan’s Deputy Agriculture Minister Berkeli Berkeliyev.

The forum addressed issues related to agriculture, investment and food security. Participants emphasized the need to actively introduce innovations, improve the efficiency of land and water use, and develop solutions to adapt to climate change.

The sides said stronger cooperation in these areas would help form sustainable agro-ecosystems and ensure food security in the region.

Particular attention was paid to expanding regional and international partnerships, attracting investment, and promoting the exchange of advanced technologies and expertise.

The international business forum, titled “Innovation, Regenerative Agriculture, Export and Digitalization for Sustainable Agro-Ecosystems,” will run through March 24.
