Turkmenistan’s Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations Nazar Agahanov and GIZ Country Coordinator in Turkmenistan Joachim Fritz have signed a protocol amending a memorandum of understanding dated March 2024, extending cooperation on the development of the Trans-Caspian transport corridor.
The document provides for the continued implementation of a capacity-building program for the corridor in Turkmenistan.
The initiative follows agreements reached at an international investors forum in Tashkent in November 2025, where the European Union, Germany and France agreed to launch the Transcaspian Transport Corridor program, according to Turkmenistan’s official media, which reported the development Saturday.
The program aims to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the corridor linking Central Asia and Europe and to develop a competitive transport route. The project is scheduled to be implemented in the region in 2026–2029 by GIZ and Expertise France with support from the European Union, Germany and France.
A working mission involving representatives of GIZ and Expertise France took place in Turkmenistan in late March 2026.
During the visit, the delegation held talks with the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations, the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the State Plant Quarantine Service, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Transport and Logistics Center of Turkmenistan, and the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.
The delegation also visited the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, where further areas of cooperation under the program were discussed.
