President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov extended sincere congratulations and best wishes to Nizar Amedi on the occasion of his election as President of the Republic of Iraq, official Turkmen media reported Monday.
The head of state also wished President Amedi good health, inexhaustible energy and great success in all endeavors aimed at the development and prosperity of the people of Iraq.
According to Rudaw, Nizar Amedi was elected President of Iraq with 227 votes in the second round of voting.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Serdar Muhammetdurdyyev held a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on March 9, 2026, with Jassim Mohammed Al-Attar, chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of Iraq in Turkmenistan. During the meeting, Muhammetdurdyyev expressed gratitude to the Iraqi side for the decision to open the Embassy of Iraq in Ashgabat.
