Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who is on labor leave, took a bike ride along the Caspian coast early Friday morning, Turkmen state media reported.
During the bike ride, the Head of state inspected the territory of the Avaza National Tourist Zone, whose appearance has changed beyond recognition in recent years. According to the report, efforts to maintain environmental standards along the coast are producing positive results.
As a result of the implementation of an urban development program, the Avaza National Tourist Zone has become one of the centers for international conferences, forums and other events. Conditions have also been created on the coast for regular sporting events.
In addition, particular importance is attached to the development of sports and physical fitness and wellness activities in the Avaza National Tourist Zone. The recreation areas created along the coast include sanatoriums, hotels, children's health and entertainment centers, cottages, multipurpose sports complexes and grounds.
According to the report, particular attention in the Avaza National Tourist Zone is given to maintaining cleanliness and high environmental standards, as well as creating the necessary conditions for vacationers to spend their time usefully. The zone also provides opportunities to develop physical fitness and wellness activities and promote human health.
At the initiative of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, mass cycling events have become a good tradition in the country. Also at Turkmenistan’s initiative, the United Nations General Assembly established World Bicycle Day by resolution, which is celebrated annually on June 3.
