The first political consultations between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and Bangladesh were held in Ashgabat on August 15. The delegations were led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov and Secretary Bilateral (East and West) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Ambassador Nazrul Islam, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reported Saturday.
The sides discussed key issues on the bilateral agenda and agreed on the importance of organizing high-level and top-level visits to expand bilateral ties. They also agreed to maintain regular contacts between the two foreign ministries and work toward arranging reciprocal visits by the foreign ministers.
The sides welcomed cooperation within the United Nations and stressed the importance of expanding the legal framework for bilateral cooperation. They also reviewed several draft documents and opportunities to strengthen contacts between the parliaments of the two countries.
The consultations also covered ways to increase trade and economic cooperation, including establishing ties between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan and the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The sides discussed cooperation in the oil and gas, transport, agriculture and textile sectors, as well as culture, education and tourism.
The two sides reaffirmed the importance of continuing productive cooperation based on their mutual interests.
