President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Ms. Olga Algaerova, who is visiting Turkmenistan to participate in the first Caspian Economic Forum.
During the meeting at the Avaza National Tourist Zone, Turkmen President and the guest exchanged views on the prospects of partnership between Turkmenistan and the UNECE in the areas of economy, trade, energy, and environment.
Due to Turkmenistan being a member of the Bureau of the UNECE Inland Transport Committee, special attention was given to the formation of new international transport routes on the Eurasian continent. In this regard, the sides emphasized that investing in the development of transport infrastructure is a powerful integration resource that opens up great economic prospects for states and regions.
Another priority aspect of cooperation is the provision of energy security. Turkmenistan, advocating for broad cooperation in this direction, including in the framework of UN, initiates and successfully implements large-scale projects together with foreign partners in the field of creating a multi-vector system of energy supplies to world markets.
Turkmenistan also attaches great importance to partnership with the United Nations on climate change, the rational use of water resources and environmental protection, introducing a number of concrete proposals on enhancing regional cooperation and creating the necessary systemic mechanisms.
The UNECE Executive Secretary expressed full support for the initiatives put forward by the President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to address challenges of the present time.
At the end of the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Olga Algaerova expressed confidence in the successful continuation of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UNECE.
