President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow took part in the International Conference entitled “The Caspian Sea: In the Interest of Developing International Economic Cooperation” alongside other leaders of the ‘Caspian Five’– the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Novruz Mammadov, the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin, and the First Vise-President of Iran Eshaq Jahangiri. Prime ministers of Uzbekistan and Bulgaria, Abdulla Aripov and Boyko Borisov are also in Avaza for the Forum.
Advocating for the Caspian littoral states’ cooperation on various fields, Askar Mamin highlighted the importance of the first Caspian Economic Forum for the advancement of such cooperation.
Iranian Vice-President emphasized the necessity of trade relations between Caspian littoral states and Europe as the prerequisite for the development of internal markets and domestic private businesses. He also familiarized the guests with the logistics services of the Iranian ports.
Exchange of information between Caspian littoral states is essential for the development of Caspian region, noted the Kazakh Prime Minister during his speech and further acquainted guests with opportunities created in Kazakhstan for the international cooperation. Highlighting the Caspian region’s potential for alternative energy resources, Askar Mamin called for further expansions in this promising field.
During the event, the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev gave a speech about the significance of Caspian basin’s oil and gas reserves and strengthening multilateral cooperation among Caspian littoral states.
The Russian Prime Minister also stated that the Caspian Sea can accommodate up to one million tourists and, with the improvement of the sea infrastructure, organization of sea cruises among Caspian port cities would fit the purpose.
