The delegation of Turkmenistan participated in the ninth session of the EU–Central Asia working group on environment and climate change that was held in Brussels on February 12-13.
The specialists and experts working in the sphere of nature protection, climate change and water resources of the Central Asian countries and the European Union member states took part in the session.
The meeting was organized in the framework of the EU–Central Asia Platform on cooperation in the area of environment and water resources which encompasses the following priority fields: the management of nature protection activities, closed cycle economy, sustainable production and consumption, climate change and water resources management.
The participants of the meeting discussed the progress achieved by the Central Asian countries since 2015 in the area of nature protection, climate change and water resources management in accordance with the conclusions made at the sixth EU–Central Asia High-Level Conference and the recommendations developed by the EU–Central Asia working group on environment and climate change.
The parties exchanged views on the priorities for future cooperation between the EU and Central Asian in the fields of nature protection, climate change and water resources.
Following the results of the meeting, the parties approved the Technical Assignment and the working procedures, as well as adopted the Programme of the EU–Central Asia working group on environment and climate change.
Back in January, Berlin hosted the Green Central Asia high-level Conference.
The participants discussed a wide range of issues related to the climate change and security in the region, including the nature protection, integrated management of water resources, preservation of biodiversity, combatting desertification, and development of mountain territories.
In the framework of the Conference, the Green Central Asia initiative on climate security was launched. The heads of the delegations expressed support to the regional initiative and signed a Joint Declaration.
