Meetings were held on Monday at the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan and at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan with the Regional Coordinator of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for Central Asia Zeynal Hajiyev.
During the meeting at the State Migration Service, the parties discussed the issues of ensuring the rights of migrants, meeting migration-related Sustainable Development Goals, and the implementation of the Global Compact on Safe, Orderly and Legal Migration.
The sides underlined the systematic work carried out in Turkmenistan to eradicate statelessness and the adoption of the corresponding National Action Plan for 2019-2024.
The officials also exchanged views on the implementation of the joint working plan between Turkmenistan and IOM for 2020, as well as on the regional project for the exchange of preliminary passenger information.
During the negotiations at the Turkmen MFA, the parties noted the high level of cooperation between Turkmenistan and IOM in the context of resolving the current and potential migration issues. The sides discussed the joint efforts in the area of combatting the human trafficking, emergency response, including the diminishing of the risks of natural disasters.
The parties reiterated the active participation of the representatives of Turkmenistan and IOM in the international forums, seminars and trainings aimed at further strengthening of measures on regulating the migration and development of international cooperation.
Zeynal Hajiyev, the Regional Coordinator of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for Central Asia, oversees IOM missions in Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyzstan Republic, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
