Turkmen Presidential Advisor Attends Ministerial Meeting on Southern Gas Corridor

Advisor to the President of Turkmenistan on Oil and Gas Issues Yagshigeldi Kakayev participates in the 6th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) Advisory Council, which takes place in Baku on Friday, according to the Azerbaijan-based Report News Agency.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev delivered welcoming remarks at the beginning of the meeting.

The meeting gathered government officials from 13 countries.

Among the participants are also the delegations of BP, SGC, BOTAS, TPAO, TANAP, TAP, SNAM, Fluxys, ICGB AD, Transgaz, SNGN Romgaz SA, UNIPER Global, Bulgargaz EAD, SACE, Plinacro companies, the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and European Investment Bank.

Progress reports on all segments of the Southern Gas Corridor project are presented at the first session. At the second plenary session, statements are planned to be made by representatives of the Southern Gas Corridor member countries and representatives of countries interested in the project.

The Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) Advisory Council has been held annually since 2015.

The 300-kilometer Trans-Caspian Gas Pipeline, considered the potential eastward extension of the Southern Gas Corridor, is a proposed subsea pipeline between Turkmenbashi in Turkmenistan, and Baku in Azerbaijan. The projected capacity of the pipeline is 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.

Turkmenistan possesses the world's fourth largest reserves of natural gas resources.
