Turkmen Leader Outlines Importance of Maintaining Stability in Economic Ties
President of Turkmenistan said the ferry service through the Caspian Sea between the ports of Turkmenbashi and Baku continues to operate.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said during the extraordinary summit of the Turkic Council held in a videoconference format that in the current conditions it is necessary to ensure the stability of trade and economic relations, and transport links between the states.

The Summit, initiated by President of Azerbaijan, brought together the presidents of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Uzbekistan, the Prime Minister of Hungary, Secretary General of the Turkic Council and the WHO Director General.

President Berdimuhamedov said Turkmenistan in close cooperation with its partners, primarily with neighboring states, carries out the necessary work to ensure that these relations are stable, in order to maintain reliable schemes of mutual deliveries and transit traffic.

In this regard, the Turkmen Leader noted that due to the coordinated joint efforts of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, the ferry service through the Caspian Sea between the ports of Turkmenbashi and Baku, which is the most important transport corridor providing cargo flows in the vast geo-economic space, continues to operate.

Joint actions with partners in the region ensure stable operation of transport corridors along the East-West and North-South routes, Turkmen Leader noted.

Since the start of the pandemic, Turkmenistan has been taking set of timely measures aimed at preventing the spread of the virus, the Head of State said, adding that the country has strengthened its border, migration and customs controls and enforced limitations on air services.

The Turkmen Leader also expressed his gratitude to the Leaders attending the summit for their concern for the citizens of Turkmenistan in their countries.

In his Twitter account, the General Director of World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom also thanked the Leaders of Turkic Council for their strong support, adding that “we look forward to overcoming this common threat together.”
