Turkmenistan considers the possibilities of further expanding the transit capacity of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport located on the coast of the Caspian Sea.
During the video conference meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was briefed by Vice-Premier Bayramgeldi Ovezov on the measures to develop the transport and logistics system of the country.
According to the Vice-Premier, in order to increase cargo turnover and the capacity of transport and transit corridors, agencies involved in the structure of the transport and communications complex have analyzed the relevant activities.
It was determined that most of the transit freight transport by road is carried out in the Turkmenbashi International Seaport -Uzbekistan, Altyn Asyr (Etrek) -Kazakhstan and others transit directions.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said the consistent integration into the global transport system and further expansion of infrastructure along the main highways, connecting routes and junctions in the East-West and North-South directions, are among the key tasks.
Turkmen Leader also said the ships and port sector are playing important roles in significantly increasing the freight traffic capacity throughout the Eurasian region.
The Head of State added that the advanced infrastructure of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport is able to meet not only the existing, but also the future demand for high quality service, adding that its full-scale output will lead to strategic changes in the logistics chains of continental freight transport.
