Turkmenistan will review fees and charges for foreign vehicles transiting the territory of Turkmenistan.
The Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Bayramgeldi Ovezov briefed the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the work on introducing amendments and additions to the Presidential Decree on streamlining the activities of state bodies on the customs border of the country and determining a single amount of fees and charges levied on owners of vehicles of foreign countries.
The Deputy Chairman said it is necessary to synchronize legislation and tariffs, gradually simplify customs, visa and other procedures in order to conduct a coordinated transport policy. He noted that these measures can significantly increase the efficiency of transport and transit corridors, expand cargo flows and the volume of foreign trade.
The agencies included in the structure of the transport and communications complex carried out an analysis of activities in this direction. The agencies determined that most of the transit freight transport by road goes through neighboring states. In this regard, it was proposed to set up special and competitive tariffs in order to attract foreign carriers so they would transit through Turkmenistan.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the key tasks for the foreseeable future are consistent integration into the global transport system and the further expansion of infrastructure along the main highways, connecting routes and junctions in the East-West and North-South directions.
The Head of State noted the relevance of transport projects, including the creation of the Modal Highway for Central Asia with access to Turkey, the construction and activation of Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey and Europe-the Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) transport corridors.
Turkmen President gave specific instructions to the Deputy Chairman to ensure strict control over the efficient operation and proper maintenance of railway bridges.
President Berdimuhamedov also pointed out the importance of the consistent implementation of major strategic projects to realize the transit, transport and logistics potential of Turkmenistan. In this regard, the Turkmen Leader instructed the Vice-Premier to make every effort to successfully implement the approved programs in this direction.
