Turkmenistan Aims for Self-Sufficiency in Agricultural Products
Turkmen President said the local markets should be fully supplied with a variety of food products that meet the needs of consumers.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said the country should be self-sufficient in the production of agricultural products during a working meeting on Thursday with the Deputy Prime Ministers Esenmyrat Orazgeldiyev and Shamuhammet Durdyliyev, who oversee the agricultural, construction and industrial complexes.

The Head of State said the local markets should be fully supplied with a variety of food products that meet the needs of Turkmen consumers.

Following the reports of the Deputy Ministers of the Cabinet of Ministers Orazgeldiyev and Durdyliyev, the President of Turkmenistan emphasized the importance of year-round provision of the country's domestic markets with necessary food products.

President Berdimuhamedov instructed Deputy Prime Minister Orazgeldiyev to increase the production of vegetable and melon products in the country, adding that “in order to reduce the import of vegetable and melon products and to supply the population with these products, it is necessary to expand the cultivated areas of potatoes and onions this fall, and also to plant additional vegetables and melons in the velayats”.

The Turkmen Leader emphasized the necessity to ensure the production of all seed potato and onions in the country and noted that farm associations, private producers and private farms should envisage the production of these crops.

The Head of State said it is important to ensure the purchase of potatoes, onions and melons from producers, timely settlements with them, and to continue the construction of refrigerated facilities for year-round supply of the population with these products.

The Turkmen President also said the members of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan should be actively involved in the construction of the refrigerated facilities.

The President of Turkmenistan gave Deputy Prime Minister Durdyliyev specific instructions for providing agricultural lands with mineral fertilizers.

Stressing the importance of the current guidelines, the Turkmen Leader demanded that the work on their implementation be coordinated and effective.
