During a working visit to Lebap velayat on Tuesday, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov got acquainted with the activities of the Tebigy Ekin farm enterprise located in the velayat’s Charjev etrap, particularly with the potato variety and its yield, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan (TDH) reports.
Rustem Byashimov, the head of the company, said Gala variety of potatoes were planted on 370 hectares of land in February this year, adding that the enterprise expects yield of 200 centner per hectare. The agricultural enterprise employs over 200 people.
The businessman said that this high-yielding variety of potatoes is adapted to the soil and climatic conditions of the region.
Byashimov said two types of equipment are used in collection of the crops, one cuts the tops and the other removes tubers to the surface. The potatoes are then harvested by hand.
Excess crop from the total volume planned for delivery to the state is sold in the country's markets.
After completion of a working trip to Lebap velayat, the Head of State went to Mary velayat the same day.
Founded in 2019, Tebigy Ekin planted crops on 791 hectares of 953-hectare land leased for 99 years. The farmers planted about 10 types of vegetables and gourds, including potatoes on 370 hectares, onions on 70 hectares, carrots and cabbage on 20 hectares.
The company also planted grapes and other fruits on around 15 hectares of land.
