C5+1 Ministerial Meeting Considers Issues Regarding Afghanistan, Economic Cooperation

Foreign Ministers of Central Asian countries and the U.S. participated in a C5+1 high-level meeting held in a video conference format on Tuesday, Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The meeting was attended by the U.S. Secretary of State and the Foreign Ministers of the Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The participants considered the joint actions in political-diplomatic field and discussed the key aspects of trade-economic cooperation. The sides also focused on efforts aimed at ensuring peace and stability in Afghanistan and development of joint mechanisms on expanding the cooperation in various areas.

During his speech at the ministerial meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov expressed the standpoint of Turkmenistan concerning the Afghanistan related issues. Top Turkmen Diplomat underlined that the Turkmen side supports the cooperation in multilateral formats aimed at strengthening of political and socio-economic situation in the neighboring country by peaceful means and is ready to use the necessary political-diplomatic potential of the country in this regard. To this end, the Turkmen side emphasized the importance of using the UN platform.

The officials also discussed the opportunities of expanding mutual investments, regional infrastructure, transport-communication, social and energy projects. The sides exchanged views on strengthening collaboration in the area of healthcare, energy, transport and environmental protection.
