Farmers in Northern Turkmenistan Receive Land For Growing Mung Beans
Possessing ripening periods optimal for local climatic conditions and high nutritional properties, mung bean is considered resource saving and promising.

Production of mung beans in Turkmenistan’s northern velayat of Dashoguz is expected to increase significantly this year, Turkmenistan’s Golden Age news outlet reported on Friday.

“This is important in the context of the task of increasing the production of food crops, as well as improving the efficiency of irrigated agriculture, since this intermediate crop, used in crop rotation after harvesting winter wheat, increases soil fertility,” the report said.

Around 700 hectares of land were allocated for mung bean cultivation in S. Turkmenbashi etrap, the velayat’s largest mung bean producing region. The crop will also be planted on 350 hectares in the velayat’s Gurbansoltan Eje etrap.

Possessing ripening periods optimal for local climatic conditions and high nutritional properties, this culture of the legume family is considered resource saving and promising. Some rural residents of the Dashoguz velayat have successful experience in growing mung beans in household plots.

The production of oilseed crops are also expected to increase in the northern velayat of Turkmenistan this year. Private sector in velayat is also actively involved in agricultural production.
