A new building of the Turkmen carpet weaving enterprise will start operating in Ashgabat. The new enterprise intends to produce 1,650 square meters of carpets and carpet products, including those intended for export, every year, Turkmenistan’s Golden Age news outlet reported on Sunday.
The creative and production site was built by specialists of the Ruhabatgurluşyk trust on the site of the old carpet factory building, which in the middle of the 20th century became one of the first structures to be restored after the devastating earthquake of 1948 in Ashgabat.
In the new building, all conditions are created for two hundred carpet weavers to work. The workshop where the world-famous handmade Turkmen carpets will be created occupies a thousand square meters.
The Director of the enterprise G. Mollayev said there will be a carpet store on the first floor and an exhibition hall, artists ' workshops, a conference hall and administrative offices on the second floor. The enterprise will include a laboratory for painting threads, a warehouse of raw materials and many other facilities.
Modern carpet enterprises will soon also open in Baherden etrap of Ahal velayat, Gubadag etrap of Dashoguz velayat, Bayramali etrap of Mary velayat and Halach etrap of Lebap velayat.
The Ashgabat carpet enterprise’s history dates back to the beginning of the twenties of the last century. The first cooperative public carpet facility in the country was established back then, and a few years later the carpet artel named after Ene Kuliyeva started working in the village of Koshi (now the territory of Ashgabat). In 1947, the capital cooperative carpet artel was established and it received the status of a factory in 1960.
