Turkmenistan to Join Kyoto Convention
Foreign Minister voiced the proposal aimed at promoting the transport diplomacy of Turkmenistan during a government meeting on Friday.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov approved the proposal for the country's accession to the International Convention on the Simplification and Harmonization of Customs Procedures, known as the Kyoto Convention, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan (TDH) reported on Friday.

According to the TDH news agency, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov voiced the proposal aimed at promoting the transport diplomacy of Turkmenistan during a government meeting on Friday.

Accession to the convention contributes to building up mutually beneficial cooperation of Turkmenistan and to the development of the country's foreign trade activities, according to the report.

Turkmen President noted that the strengthening international cooperation in the transport and communication sector is one of the integral factors in achieving the SDGs, adding that Turkmenistan, which has a solid potential in this strategic area, invariably stands for the development of effective and mutually coordinated approaches to multilateral partnerships.

The Kyoto Convention, adopted in 1973, is one of the most significant international legal documents in the field of customs and involves the creation of unified principles of customs policy.
