The European Union funded project “Support to Further Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development in Turkmenistan - SARD III” on Wednesday organized an online seminar titled "Growing vegetables in greenhouses and key aspects of greenhouse management," Turkmenistan’s Golden Age news outlet reports.
The event, which brought together agronomists, vegetable growers and representatives of greenhouse farms, as well as project experts, was jointly organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan and the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.
During the seminar, the participants exchanged views on the experience of developing greenhouse farms in the world and in Turkmenistan, the prospects for their further development and the possibilities of expanding productive cooperation.
In this regard, foreign experts familiarized the participants with modern methods and innovations in the fields of greenhouse management, seed breeding, growing seedlings, developing a fertilizer application, irrigation, disease and pest control, as well as key aspects of greenhouse management.
Along with the production of vegetables and flowers, the participants considered opportunities for greenhouse citrus production. Particular attention was paid to phytosanitary requirements for the export of fruit and vegetable products to the EU countries.
Turkmen businesses have commissioned more than a hundred greenhouse farms with a total area of more than 356 hectares. Around 150 modern greenhouses with a total area of 1,300 hectares are expected to open next year.
