Due to the potential of broader Caspian gas cooperation, the energy sector of Turkmenistan is of interest to Canada, the Azerbaijan-based Trend news agency reported on Saturday citing the Canadian Foreign Ministry.
The Canadian Foreign Ministry told Trend that the Turkmen energy sector is of interest with the signing in January 2021 of a Memorandum of Understanding between the governments of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan on joint exploration and development of hydrocarbon resources of the Dostluk field
There is also a potential for cooperation between Canada and Turkmenistan in the fields of healthcare and agriculture, according to the report.
The Canada-based Thermo Design Engineering Ltd, a long-term partner of Turkmenistan, is currently working on gas fields in the eastern region of the country.
The Canadian businesses also buy cotton yarn and a number of oil and gas products through the auctions conducted by the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan.
