In accordance with the Law of Turkmenistan on Trade Activities, there are specific requirements for holding discount sales and special promotions for products.
Discount sale of goods is defined as a form of retail trade in which the sale of goods is carried out at reduced prices, according to the law.
Special promotions are defined as the establishment of a discount on the price of goods in order to stimulate demand for them. The frequency and content of a special promotion is determined by the subject of trading activity.
Information about the sale of goods and the place of its holding must be announced at least five days before the day of its start.
Discount sale of goods is recognized as such if the following conditions are met:
- if the discount sale of all goods is carried out within a certain place or a clearly defined group of goods;
- the discount sale takes place within a limited and specified period of time;
- prices are lower than normal prices for the relevant goods.
The subject of trading activity is obliged to indicate the price of a unit of goods offered for discount sale. The product price label must contain two prices: original and reduced.
The amount of discounts on goods during their sale is determined by the subjects of trading activities, depending on the type of goods and the format of the trading facility. Discounts are subdivided into bonus, wholesale, trade, seasonal.
If a product is on discount sale due to a defect, then the check or other document issued to the buyer must contain "defect” mark. In the absence of the such mark and detection of a defect after purchase, the buyer has the right to return the goods.
The price of the relevant item for which the discounted price has been set must be retained for at least 30 days from the date of the announcement of the sale or discount on the item.
