Ahal State Power Plant generated 679.02 thousand kilowatt-hours of electricity in the first quarter of 2021, achieving the growth rate of 110.3% compared to the same period last year, the country’s official media reported on Saturday.
Türkmenenergo State Electric Energy Corporation’s Ahal power station, commissioned in 2010 on the occasion of the State Flag Day of Turkmenistan, has two gas turbine units with a capacity of 254.2 MW.
Unlike the gas turbines installed in Buzmeyin, Ashgabat and Dashoguz, the gas turbines of the Ahal State Power Plant can operate not only on gas, but also on diesel fuel, according to the Türkmenenergo’s website.
The commissioning of the power plant reportedly allowed to increase the reliability of power supply to consumers in Ashgabat and Ahal velayat. With the commissioning of three small gas turbines in 2013 and two gas turbines in 2014, the plant's capacity increased 648.1 MW. This power plant is currently considered as the most powerful gas turbine power plant in the country.
