President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov in a meeting on Monday in Ashgabat agreed on the need to increase the volume of mutual trade turnover.
A delegation of Tatarstan headed by the President Rustam Minnikhanov held talks with the Turkmen side led by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The meeting took place within the framework of the working visit of the President of Tatarstan to Ashgabat, the Tatar President’s Press Service reports.
During the meeting, President Berdimuhamedov expressed the interest of Turkmenistan in expanding the cooperation with KAMAZ, the Tatarstan-based truck manufacturer. In turn, President of Tatarstan informed that KAMAZ has prepared a cooperation roadmap in various directions, including electric buses, according to the report.
The Turkmen President also focused on the issues of cooperation with Tatarstan in the area of information technologies.
“Next week we will lay the foundation of a smart city. We are interested in your experience in digitalization in the administrative sphere, services, housing and communal services, etc.,” Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said during the meeting.
The President Rustam Minnikhanov expressed Tatarstan’s readiness to continue working with Turkmenistan in all areas, according to the statement by the Press Service.
In 2020, the volume of trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Tatarstan amounted to $107 million. The main exports from Tatarstan are land vehicles, rubber, machinery and mechanical devices. Turkmenistan’s main exports to Tatarstan Republic are plastics and plastic products, and vegetables.
