A department for the development of economic and trade relations with Turkmenistan was established in the administration of the Sarakhs Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of Iran on Sunday in order to further develop trade and economic relations, the official media of Turkmenistan reports.

The ceremony was attended by senior Iranian officials, representatives of the Iranian Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade and Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization.

During the event, the officials discussed a wide range of issues regarding the prospects for cooperation of the Sarakhs SEZ with Turkmenistan and the countries of the region.

The Sarakhs SEZ is considered as a bridge for connecting the countries of Central Asia to the trade markets of the Persian Gulf states, Europe, Afghanistan and Pakistan, according to the report.

Earlier this year, Iran’s Expediency Council approved a bill to create a free economic zone in Inche Burun on the border with Turkmenistan.
