Kazakhstan’s grain supplies to Turkmenistan in the first nine months of 2021 increased by 27% compared to the same period last year. From January to September, Kazakhstan has shipped 13 thousand tons of grain to Turkmenistan via the railway, ElDala.kz agriculture information portal reported on Friday.
Besides Turkmenistan, countries such as Latvia, Azerbaijan and Iran are also among the leaders in the growth of grain imports from Kazakhstan. Supplies to Latvia increased by 840%. In absolute terms the growth amounted to only 8.8 thousand tons – from 1.2 thousand to 10 thousand tons.
In terms of volume, Kazakh grain exports to Iran increased the most – 360 thousand tons (plus 88% over the nine months of 2020). Exports to Russia added 56,000 tons (14%), and to Azerbaijan – 5,600 tons (70%).
In percentage terms, China’s grain imports from Kazakhstan plummeted the most – 51% (minus 270 thousand tons). In terms of volume, grain exports to Uzbekistan decreased the most – by 390 thousand tons (minus 16%). Exports to Tajikistan decreased by 111 thousand tons (minus 14%).
In the nine months of 2021, Kazakhstan exported nearly 6.4 million tons of grain through the railway. This indicator is 10% or 684 thousand tons less than in the same period in 2020.
During his official visit to Ashgabat, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said the country is ready to increase the supply of products worth over 130 million, including flour and wheat, to Turkmenistan.
