Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan aim to create favorable conditions for freight transportation along the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey-Europe route through the Turkmenbashi International Seaport. The issue was considered during the meeting of the Uzbek-Turkmen working group on transport and logistics held online on Thursday.

The talks were attended by Deputy Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Abdusamat Muminov, Chairman of the Türkmendemirýollary (Turkmen Railways) Agency Azat Atamyradov, and representatives of government agencies and organizations working in road, rail and aviation sectors, the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan said in its press release on the results of the meeting.

The sides discussed prospects for cooperation in the transport sector. They particularly considered the issue of resuming the operation of Hojeyli-Koneurgench and Shavat-Dashoguz border checkpoints, closed due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

The officials also exchanged views on intensifying work on Ashgabat Agreement with all participants of Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman international transit-transport corridor.

Agreements to develop the international multimodal route Asia-Pacific Countries-China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Europe were approved in Tashkent in December 2019.
