Serdar Berdimuhamedov Inaugurated as Turkmen President
The Turkmen President is elected for a period of seven years and takes office from the moment he takes the oath.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov was sworn in as the President of Turkmenistan in the capital Ashgabat on Saturday.

The inauguration ceremony of the newly elected Turkmen President was held at the Ruhiyet (Spirituality) Palace, the official Turkmen media reports.

Speaking at a Halk Maslahaty meeting on February 11, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who has served as Turkmen President since 2007, said he had decided to give way to young leaders and entrust them with the state affairs at the new stage of development of the country.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov intends to continue his work as the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty chamber of Turkmenistan's bicameral parliament Milli Gengesh.

Early presidential elections were held in Turkmenistan on March 12. Serdar Berdimuhamedov won a landslide victory, gaining 72.97% of the votes.
