The Dialogue of Women of the Central Asian countries and the Russian Federation “The Role of Women in Socio-Political and Socio-Economic Development” was held in Turkmenistan’s capital Ashgabat on Friday.
The dialogue gathered representatives of Central Asian countries and Russia, and heads of regional structures of the United Nations, the official Turkmen media reports.
The plenary session was opened by Gulshat Mammedova, Chairman of the Mejlis Chamber of Turkmen bicameral parliament Milli Gengesh. Warmly welcoming the participants of the event, she said, "Our Dialogue is aimed at supporting cooperation, trust and mutual understanding between women, providing them with opportunities for a more significant impact on issues related to peace, stability and sustainable development."
“Our women, with their active work and new ideas, make a great and extremely important contribution to the fight against such global threats as the negative effects of climate change, environmental degradation, as well as to address pressing issues of socio-economic, cultural and humanitarian development, health care and education ", Gulshat Mammedova said.
The members of the parliaments of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan gave speeches on the role of women in maintaining international dialogue in the name of peace and sustainable development, preserving cultural identity, developing entrepreneurship, and addressing environmental issues.
The meeting resulted in adoption of the Declaration of the Dialogue of Women of the Central Asian countries and Russia, which, in particular, notes the achievements of these states in strengthening regional and international cooperation in order to ensure peace, stability and sustainable development.
Created in December 2020 by representatives of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, with the support of the UN, the Women's Dialogue is the first of its kind structure in the history of Central Asia.
