President of Russia Vladimir Putin announced the intention of the management of the Russian energy giant Gazprom to visit Turkmenistan.

Answering questions after the sixth Caspian summit held in Turkmen capital Ashgabat on Wednesday, Putin said, "Gazprom's management will soon go to Turkmenistan," TASS news agency reports.

The Russian Leader stated that in the traditional areas of energy cooperation, Moscow and Ashgabat have agreements on the continuation of some contracts.

In July 2019, Gazprom signed a five-year contract to purchase natural gas from the Turkmen state-owned natural gas producer Türkmengaz (Turkmen Gas) State Concern (for the period through June 30, 2024).

In 2021, Turkmenistan supplied around 10 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas to Russia, which is twice the level of Turkmen gas supplies to Russia in 2020.
