Russia Looks to Develop Transport Corridors Through Turkmenistan

Russia aims to develop transport corridors passing through Turkmenistan, THE Baku-based Trend news agency reported on Wednesday with reference to the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia.

"Currently, Russian companies are interested in participating in the project for the development of the North-South transport corridor (Russian Federation - Persian Gulf) with the construction of a section of the highway in Turkmenistan," the ministry said in a statement.

The Russian Ministry also stated the relevance of increasing the volume of goods transported through the infrastructure of international transport corridors passing through Turkmenistan and Russia.

“Russian ports on the Caspian Sea and the Turkmen port of Turkmenbashi have a significant reserve capacity. In this regard, the issue of interaction between both countries to attract cargo to the infrastructure of transport corridors is of particular relevance,” the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia said.

Despite the current situation in the world and the strict measures introduced in the port of Turkmenbashi, the growth of cargo transportation in Turkmenistan last year compared to 2019 increased by 28%.
