President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Thursday as part of his working visit to Baku, the press service of the President of Azerbaijan reports.
The Turkmen President, expressing gratitude to his Azerbaijani counterpart for the invitation to the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement Contact Group on COVID-19, noted the important role of the Movement in protecting international peace and security. Serdar Berdimuhamedov also stressed the importance of the fight against the pandemic within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement.
President Ilham Aliyev thanked Serdar Berdimuhamedov for attending the Summit and said Azerbaijan has always paid special attention to further developing bilateral ties with Turkmenistan. Ilham Aliyev also highlighted the high level of political dialogue and development of relations between the countries in cultural and humanitarian spheres.
President Ilham Aliyev said that close political ties between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan have been built on a strong basis. In addition, Ilham Aliyev stressed that the countries have great opportunities for cooperation in energy, cotton production, transport and investment spheres.
Ilham Aliyev added that Azerbaijan is increasing its transport and transit potential, which will create additional opportunities for the transportation of Turkmen goods through the territory of Azerbaijan in the future.
