Toyota Unveils Revamped Land Cruiser Prado 2024

Toyota on Wednesday unveiled the next-generation Land Cruiser “250” (Prado). The new vehicle will be available with a range of petrol and diesel powertrains, including a hybrid for the first time, according to the company’s press release.

Dubbed the Land Cruiser 250 in Japan and US markets, but retaining the Land Cruiser Prado name in most markets, including the EU and Australia, the new-generation model is based on the TNGA-F platform shared with the Land Cruiser 300, Lexus GX, and Lexus LX models. 

The world's biggest automaker by sales informed that it will produce the new model of the brand at two factories in Japan and ship them overseas from there.

In the U.S. and China, the new vehicle will be available only in 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol-electric hybrid powertrain option with an output of 326 horsepower. Other engines to be available in other markets include a 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol (282 hp), a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel (204 hp), as well as a 2.7-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine (163 hp).

The new Land Cruiser will become available in Japan in the first half of 2024, and come to the US in the spring of that year, Toyota said, adding that suggested retail pricing in the US will start in the mid-$50,000 range.

Launched in 1951, the Land Cruiser series is now 72 years old. Toyota said the Land Cruiser and the Lexus LX and GX have together sold 11.3 million units as of the end of June 2023.
