Key Infrastructure Projects Inaugurated at Turkmen-Afghan Border
Construction of the Serhetabat-Herat section, a key stage in the implementation of the TAPI project and the Serhetabat-Herat fiber-optic communication line, September 11, 2024, Turkmenistan.

Today marks a new chapter in the era of Revival of the New Epoch of a Powerful State. Significant historical events occurred, showcasing the constructive political strategy of independent and neutral Turkmenistan, initiated by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and now being implemented by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

Among today's key events were the inauguration of a 177-meter railway bridge on the Serhetabat-Turghundi steel highway, the foundation-laying ceremony for the "Şatlyk-1" gas compressor station in Mary Velayat, the start of construction of the Serhetabat-Herat section as part of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline project, and the Serhetabat-Herat fiber-optic communication line, also known as the "Arkadag's White Road." Additionally, work began on a warehouse complex at the "dry port" of the Turghundi railway station, the first phase of the Turghundi-Herat railway section, and the commissioning of the "Nur-el-Jahad" power plant in Afghanistan's Herat province, part of the first phase of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission line project.

The ceremonial events were attended by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and Afghanistan's Acting Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund.

Turkmenistan is actively participating in efforts to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in shaping a modern architecture of energy security. A vital contribution to this effort is the TAPI project, initiated by Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, which serves the welfare of the region's fraternal nations.

Earlier in the day, the National Leader of the Turkmen people arrived at the "Islim-Cheşme" border post in Serhetabat, Mary Velayat, where he was greeted by local officials. Shortly after, Afghanistan's Acting Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund arrived by helicopter, receiving a warm welcome, complete with the traditional Turkmen offering of bread and salt.

A meeting was held at the conference hall at the "Islim-Cheşme" border post between Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund. Following the meeting, both leaders participated in the ceremonies marking the opening and groundbreaking of new infrastructure projects, symbols of the deep-rooted, centuries-old neighborly relations between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, now entering a new chapter of cooperation.

In keeping with ancient spiritual traditions, the Mufti of Turkmenistan offered a prayer from the Holy Quran.

The participants were also addressed via digital system by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, whose speech was met with enthusiasm.

This day, celebrated during the "Year of the Wisdom of Magtymguly Pyragy," will be remembered as a bright page in the history of independent, neutral Turkmenistan, signifying a new milestone in the development of mutually beneficial cooperation between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, as well as regional and international partnerships dedicated to peace, prosperity, and progress.
