As part of a visit to Turkey, representatives of Turkmen media outlets toured tea plantations and the village of Checheva near the city of Rize, where they learned about local tea cultivation methods and the development of rural tourism.
The delegation included journalists from Business Turkmenistan, Turkmenportal, Orient, News Central Asia, Atavatan Türkmenistan, the magazine Medeniýet we Syýahat, and representatives of the television channel Türkmenistan TV4.
Participants visited organic tea gardens, where they were introduced to agricultural techniques adapted to the Black Sea climate, as well as the process of harvesting and processing tea leaves.
The village of Checheva has been transformed into a center of sustainable rural tourism. Efforts to preserve traditional lifestyles, local cuisine and handicrafts have contributed to the growth of eco-tourism and attracted many travelers to the region.
The Black Sea coast is the only area in Turkey where the climate and soil conditions allow for industrial-scale tea cultivation. On the hills covered with tea bushes, farmers harvest fresh leaves by hand using special shears. Due to the region’s rugged terrain, the harvest is often transported downhill by cable lines. Each bush produces multiple harvests per year, and some farms focus on organic growing methods, avoiding chemical use entirely.
