Turkmenistan is interested in the construction project of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railroad, which will give a powerful impetus to the development of transport links in Central Asia, said Batyr Annayev, Deputy Director General of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of the country, in his speech at the first meeting of transport ministers of Central Asia and China, held from September 25 to 26 this year in Beijing.
The Deputy Director General highlighted the potential of such projects in transforming the region into a major transit hub, facilitating trade and cargo transit between China, Europe, and the Gulf countries via Central Asia, according to the press release of the Agency For Transport and Communications.
Batyr Annaev also emphasized the capabilities of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, which has been upgraded and transformed into a versatile transportation hub with specialized terminals. The port has an annual throughput capacity of approximately 17 million tons of cargo, including 300,000 passengers, 75,000 trucks, and 400,000 containers. It is also capable of accommodating 17 ships simultaneously.
The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, spanning 454 kilometers, will link the railway systems of China and Uzbekistan through Kyrgyzstan. This railway will then connect with Turkmenistan, Iran, and Turkey, integrating into the European railroad network as part of the New Silk Road transportation system.
