On Friday, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held an expanded session of the Cabinet of Ministers via a digital system, during which Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs, R. Meredov, reported on the process of granting Turkmen citizenship and residence permits.
Over the years, according to Presidential Decrees, 30,998 people living in Turkmenistan without citizenship of other countries have been granted Turkmen citizenship. Additionally, 5,018 foreign citizens and stateless individuals have been granted residence permits in the country.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with other authorized state bodies, has worked on the citizenship applications of 1,146 people residing in Turkmenistan. These individuals represent 29 different nationalities. Additionally, applications for residence permits have been submitted by 134 individuals, including citizens of six foreign countries and representatives of 15 nationalities.
In honor of the 33rd anniversary of Turkmenistan's independence, drafts of documents related to granting citizenship and residence permits were presented to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for consideration.
The ceremony to distribute passports and other relevant documents is scheduled to take place in the coming days at the State Migration Service building. The event will involve representatives from accredited international organizations, foreign media, and relevant domestic ministries and departments.
After hearing the report, the President emphasized that Turkmenistan continues to implement effective measures to protect human rights and freedoms in accordance with international standards. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov then signed a decree granting citizenship to 1,146 people and a resolution providing residence permits to 134 individuals.

Guided by the principles of humanity and benevolence passed down by our ancestors, and in accordance with the recognized international norms for the protection of human rights and freedoms, as well as the right of individuals to freely choose their citizenship, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a decree "On the Granting of Citizenship of Turkmenistan."
According to the decree, a large group of individuals living permanently in the country without citizenship has been granted Turkmen citizenship.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the State Migration Service, along with other relevant ministries and departments, are tasked with continuing the process of documenting stateless individuals who have applied for Turkmen citizenship and submitting the appropriate proposals to the President.
