The authorities of Russia's Astrakhan region have allocated a 20-hectare plot for the establishment of a logistics center for Turkmenistan in the "Lotos" port special economic zone, according to Denis Afanasyev, Vice Governor and Chairman of the regional government. This was reported on Monday by Turkmenistan’s official media.
Afanasyev emphasized that this plot has long been reserved for Turkmenistan’s trade and logistics center, and the local government remains committed to supporting the project. He also mentioned that similar conditions will be offered to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
"We also have significant foreign economic activities with Iran," Afanasyev added. He further noted that during a recent visit to Ashgabat, he discussed the details of the project with Turkmen counterparts.
The agreement to establish the logistics center was signed in January between Sergey Milushkin, CEO of the "Lotos" SEZ, and Merdan Byashimov, acting CEO of Turkmenistan's Transport and Logistics Center, during Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin's visit to Ashgabat.
In June last year, Astrakhan Governor Igor Babushkin stated that Astrakhan shipping companies are ready to participate in the creation of a shipping line on the Caspian Sea between Astrakhan and Turkmenistan’s Turkmenbashi port.
