Turkmenistan has signed a framework agreement for the construction of a new urea plant in the town of Kiyanly, located in the Balkan velayat. The agreement was signed on Wednesday in Tokyo during President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s working visit to Japan, according to official Turkmen media.
The project outlines cooperation on the design, procurement, and turnkey construction of a facility with an annual production capacity of 1.155 million tons of urea. The agreement was signed between the State Concern Türkmenhimiýa and a consortium comprising Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (Japan), Gap Inşaat Yatırım ve Dış Ticaret A.Ş. (Türkiye), and Mitsubishi Corporation (Japan).
Turkmenistan previously launched a similar facility, the Garabogazkarbamid plant, in 2018. It also has a capacity of 1.155 million tons of urea and 660,000 tons of synthetic ammonia annually, using natural gas as its primary feedstock.
In addition, Türkmenhimiýa signed another framework agreement with Toyo Engineering Corporation (Japan) and Rönesans Endüstri Tesisleri Inşaat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. (Turkey) to carry out major renovation work at the Kiyanly polymer plant.
