The National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, proposed the creation of a Turkmen-French Business Council during his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday in Paris, suggesting experienced businessmen as co-chairs of the council. This was announced by Turkmenistan's Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, during a government meeting on Thursday.
During the talks, current issues of regional and international importance were discussed. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov proposed the establishment of a new format of cooperation, Central Asia–France, aimed at strengthening the relations between the countries of the region and France, as reported by Turkmenistan's official media.
The National Leader of the Turkmen people put forward a number of important initiatives, including enhancing the work of the Turkmen-French Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation and expanding its activities to include scientific, technical, and humanitarian areas. The need to intensify investment contacts and cooperation in the financial and banking sectors was also emphasized.
One of the key events of the visit was the Turkmen-French Economic Forum, with representatives from 40 French companies participating.
As a result of the visit, which gave a new impetus to the development of bilateral relations, 9 bilateral agreements were signed.
The government meeting also reviewed the results of the work completed in the country over the first four months of the current year.
