Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced that preparations are underway in Astana for a meeting with the leadership of Turkmenistan. The statement was made during his annual address to the nation at a joint session of the Kazakh Parliament, Kazinform reported on Monday.

Tokayev also noted upcoming talks with the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia. By the end of the year, the Kazakh president plans to visit Russia and Uzbekistan, and to hold meetings with leaders from several Asian and European countries.

Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan have maintained a strategic partnership since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992. Bilateral cooperation spans across various sectors, including the economy, culture, education, and science.

The legal framework of the partnership is based on 59 agreements, including the Declaration on the Development of Further Cooperation signed on February 27, 1997, and the Treaty on Strategic Partnership signed on April 18, 2017.

In August of this year, President Tokayev visited Turkmenistan to participate in the third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries.
